An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would give this book a zero star review if I could! No! I would give it a -∞ star review! I DESPISE this book! It is the worst, terrible, chauvinistic, despicable, idiotic book I have ever read! Allow me to explain…
All the women in this book are very terrible and allow themselves to controlled by the men they ‘love’. I would not ever have read this book if I didn’t have to for English class. Stupid English class, always making me read the worst literature imaginable! The women in this book are bad enough, but the men are even worse! Sir Robert twists his wife’s words after he himself, has committed a crime and makes himself seem like the victim to his wife! The men in this book don’t even notice how bad they treat their wives and personally I think that Mrs. Cheveley was probably the best character in this play from a woman’s rights standpoint. She is basically the only one who goes after what she wants even though her methods are not the best.
There are passages in this book where the men outright state that they are better than women, or compare their intelligence to that of their wives, always ending up concluding they are smarter!! WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH THIS BOOK, AND MY ENGLISH CLASS FOR MAKING ME READ IT! I completely disagree with every review that states that this book is ‘amazing’ or that Oscar Wilde is a great writer. I will never ever read another one of his books, unless forced to by a class or reading list!
